Why did it take a such a long time?
After AVAFs extensive touring for over fifteen years, Andreas decided to take a step back. Because of the nature of this music, he was concerned that all the excessive travelling and an unavoidable routine would hurt the "flame of passion", which is the essential ingredient of this music. At the same time, his first son was born, shortly after the second son and only two years later his daughter. It was important to him to be around for these first and most important years, especially since he had experienced the lack of presence of his own father (who also was a musician) during his childhood. During these last years, AV has produced four albums and played only very few mini tours, has written several symphonic works and music for theatre.
2004, Andreas Vollenweider & Friends begun to re-activate the live project with new record labels and agency partners.
The current touring band has already started touring in Europe and was welcomed by a highly enthusiastic crowd of his loyal listeners all over Europe, standing rooms only...

New AVAF on short tour
AVAF is touring as a quartet, but acoustically comes across more like a full orchestra! Besides Walter Keiser, who has been responisble for the drumming heartbeat of the music since more then 25 years, the band consists if multi-instrumentalists; Daniel Kueffer, winds, keys, vocals, acordion, percussion... and Andi Pupato, percussion, keys, vocals, special effects... Andreas is playing a variety of special harps, guitar, keys, vocals, winds...
The music of AVAF is, as always, very dynamic, from subtle to dramatic and orchestral, but still with a lot of room for improvisation, spontaneity and especially - for humour.
The dates for AVAFs first “coming back” in April/May see our tour schedule at “concerts & tours”
Please note: our first leg of the US tour does unfortunately not include all the cities/states due to schedule and routing reasons. But we will come back for more concerts within the next 12 month!!!
